Let’s make Ada County a safer place to live.

Johnathan’s Priorities as Prosecutor

Addressing the Root Cause of Crime

Addiction and mental health issues are often unaddressed when it comes to crime. With an evidence-based approach, we can help better reintegrate individuals into society. Johnathan intends to establish and bolster efficient release valves like DUI and neighborhood courts, enhancing their cost-effectiveness and efficiency, while also getting folks the help they need. Johnathan also plans to implement pre-charging diversion for minor offenses, a proven and underutilized program in Idaho.

Enhancing Criminal Justice Partnerships

Johnathan’s blueprint for the county prosecutor’s office includes attending regular monthly training sessions for law enforcement agencies, effective communication within departments, and keeping law enforcement informed about legal changes while inviting community feedback. Additionally, he’ll advocate for empowering deputy prosecutors, granting them the discretion needed to ensure fair and effective justice.

Transparency and Effectiveness

Ada County's current prosecutor's office operates with a conviction rate of approximately 40%, a level that falls below the standard of 95% upheld by county offices nationwide. This disparity represents an unacceptable inefficiency and translates to an undue burden on taxpayer dollars. Johnathan promises reasonable allocation of resources by reducing expenditures on weak cases. This approach not only enhances fiscal responsibility but also contributes to a more streamlined and efficient criminal justice system, ultimately reducing the strain on our county jail facilities.

Support for Victims

Johnathan will be dedicated to prioritizing victim needs in the Ada County prosecutor's office. By providing assistance and empathy to those who have been harmed, Johnathan will ensure that the legal system remains responsive to the needs of individuals affected by crime. This support will foster a cooperative relationship between victims and law enforcement, facilitating the gathering of evidence and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the criminal justice process.
